Mickey Dunne is a world renowned uilleann piper from Co. Limerick, steeped in the traveller music tradition of his family. The love of music was passed on to him by his father Paddy who was a great fiddle player. Mickey spent a lot of his youth travelling around playing music at various Fleadhs, Munster finals and Galway races. The fiddle tradition in the Dunne family was in turn passed on to Mickey’s daughters Niamh and Bríd both of whom are also very well known accomplished musicians.
Mickey has either performed or taught at various Tionóil, summer schools and festivals in Ireland and abroad in places like the US and Cuba to name a few. He has been teaching the MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance in the University of Limerick for over 20 years. As well as this Mickey is a very sought after pipemaker and reedmaker having learned much of the art from Cillian Ó Briain.
